The Greater Kansas City Kappa Alpha Theta Alumnae Chapter has established two scholarship funds with the Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation.
HARRIET FOWLER BROWN SCHOLARSHIP
Alice Neal Clarkson, Kappa/University of Kansas, was our chapter president in 1961 and 1962 and the Theta of the Year in 1969, and established the Kansas City Alumnae Scholarship program after attending Grand Convention in 1962. Alice often spoke of needing financial help in order to finish her education and was her impetus to be able to allow alumnae to help future active members of Theta.
The award is named in honor of Harriet Fowler Brown, who took on the fledging scholarship fund as a favorite project. Harriet was chapter president in 1933 and Theta of the Year in 1964. With the vote of the chapter, the group named the scholarship in her honor. Harriet supported the program for the rest of her life.
Funds for the foundation came from proceeds from the Flaming Festival originally and later other fund raising events. Initially one scholarship was awarded and today three recipients are awarded the scholarship. Thetas attending any of the following colleges are eligible to apply:
* University of Kansas
* Kansas State University
* Washburn University
* University of Missouri
* Westminster College
The Harriet Fowler Brown/Kansas City Alumnae Chapter Scholarship criteria include: Sophomores, juniors, or seniors going directly to graduate school who are members of chapters in Kansas or chapters in Missouri or are residents of the Greater Kansas City area attending school anywhere in the U.S. or Canada.

SERVE ON THE SCHOLARSHIP SELECTION COMMITTEE!
Help us select the recipients of these scholarships by serving on the Scholarship Selection Committee. It's a great short-term volunteer opportunity that you can complete from the comfort of your home at your convenience!
Volunteers receive materials, resources, and training that help prepare them for application review in the spring. Typically, committee chairmen "recruit" alumnae to serve on the committees in January/February. Theta Foundation provides an opportunity to participate in a "mock review" prior to actual application review. Application review takes place in late March/early April, and we try our best to keep the number of applications assigned to each committee member reasonable for the amount of time they are given (usually 10-12 applications per committee member).
To volunteer, contact Betsy at email@example.com.
